World’s largest waste-to-energy (WTE) plant is to be equipped with MARTIN grates

26/04/2017

Our cooperation partner MHIEC has received an order to supply MARTIN reverse-acting grates for the world's largest (8 x 850 = 6800 t/d) WTE plant, located in Shanghai Laogang / China. This has confirmed yet again that the MARTIN reverse-acting grate is suitable not only for household waste of any kind from all over the world, but also for large-scale and mega plants.

In addition, the plant will use the very low NOx (VLN) process developed by MARTIN. In this process, excess combustion gases are extracted above the rear end of the grate. The extracted VLN gas is then re-injected as a mixing gas in the upper part of the furnace. These measures are conducive to chemical reactions that eliminate the fuel NOx formed, and promote optimal mixing of the combustion gases for the SNCR system.

All 8 lines will be equipped with MARTIN-reverse acting grates, each 13.55 m wide, and will have a combined electrical output of 144 MW.

The Shanghai Laogang facility, the world's largest plant for the thermal treatment of waste, goes online in 2019.
