MARTIN GmbH supplies combustion technology for new waste-to-energy plant in Canada

05/08/2025

MARTIN GmbH has been commissioned to supply essential process engineering equipment for the construction of a new waste-to-energy plant in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (Canada). The project will be implemented by Enwave Energy Corporation in collaboration with EPC contractor Maple Reinders Constructors Ltd., our subsidiary LAB SA, and partner company Andritz TEP.

For the new plant, MARTIN will supply a 1-run reverse-acting grate (21.3 MWth), the basic boiler design, an SNCR system and other ancillary equipment. The project was launched in July 2025. Commissioning is planned for summer 2028. The new facility will replace an existing line from 1983 that is over 42 years old, and in the future will recover energy from up to 90 % of the household waste produced on Prince Edward Island. Enwave will use the recovered energy in it's hot water district heating system serving over 145 buildings.

Ulrich Martin, Managing Director of MARTIN GmbH:
"With our technology, we are helping to ensure a sustainable energy supply on Prince Edward Island while making an important contribution to waste disposal. We are delighted that this project allows us to further build on our long-standing experience in the Canadian market."

Thanks to this project, MARTIN is once again strengthening its presence in the Canadian market – more than twelve years after the construction of the Durham (Ontario) plant.
