Milestone order – The 1,000th MARTIN combustion grate will be delivered to Bazenheid.

08/11/2019

On 06/11/2019, the Bazenheid waste management association (Zweckverband Abfallverwertung Bazenheid) and MARTIN GmbH signed the contract for the supply of lots 1 (combustion system) and 2 (boiler) for the Bazenheid Energy Park optimization project. The new combustion line will replace the existing line 3 and will be largely identical in design to line 1, for which MARTIN was awarded the contract in 2012.

MARTIN will supply the combustion system and steam boiler. A crucial factor that tipped the balance in favour of awarding both lots to one contractor was MARTIN's installation concept. The concept ensures quick and smooth installation within the space constraints imposed by the existing plant. The flue gas treatment systems will also be replaced. This project will take place in parallel with MARTIN's work.

The new line will be equipped with a 2-run reverse-acting grate with a total width of 3.91 m, and will be designed for a gross heat release of 32.0 MW and a thermal treatment capacity of 9.2 t/h of waste. The superheated steam produced (400 °C and 40 bar) will be converted into electricity in a steam turbine.

The particular challenge of this order is that the new line has to be fitted into the limited space available on site. The existing plant must continue to operate throughout the entire construction phase because reliable operation and waste disposal are of utmost importance.

The planning and procurement phase will begin in November 2019, and installation of the main components will start in December 2020. Start-up will commence in September 2021, while handover to the customer is scheduled for December 2021.
