In the 1940s, elimination of municipal waste by means of industrial-scale combustion was not the foremost of political considerations. Nor were the financial means for achieving this goal readily available. As a result, almost no new Waste-to-Energy plants were planned and built.

At precisely this time, however, it became economically viable to combust low-grade coal in power stations, and our company's grate system was extremely successful in this market sector. By 1949, over 200 reverse-acting grates had been delivered and were operating successfully in many countries throughout Europe.
