General contractor for the delivery of lot 1 "Combustion system"

26/07/2011

In Buchs (Aargau canton), the contract for the new combustion line of the waste-to-energy plant was signed ceremoniously on 17 June 2011. MARTIN is the general contractor for the delivery of lot 1 "Combustion system" which includes beside the combustion system also the boiler and the electrostatic precipitator. The customer is the GEKAL association, which operates two combustion lines equipped with a MARTIN reverse-acting grate on site. The new combustion line will replace line 3, which was commissioned in 1984.
The new line will be equipped with a 2-run grate with a total width of 4.16 m. The line is designed for a gross heat release of 30 MW; and thermal treatment of up to 10.8 t/h of waste can be achieved. The superheated steam produced (400 °C and 40 bar) is converted to electricity in a counter-pressure steam turbine.

With the order for this line, MARTIN will implement the Very-Low-NOx (VLN) process in a new plant in Switzerland for the first time. In this process, the flue gas flow and NOx content downstream of the combustion system are considerably reduced by means of internal recirculation of VLN gas. A more compact design of the boiler system and the deduster have been achieved by applying the MARTIN VLN process.
The installation of the main components will begin in March 2012 after the planning and purchasing phase in 2011. Commissioning will begin in July 2013. Handover to the customer is scheduled for January 2014.
