Combustion system for the Bozen thermal waste treatment plant

10/06/2010

In May MARTIN was awarded the contract for the supply of the combustion system for the new combustion line in the thermal treatment plant for municipal waste in Bozen, Italy. The contract includes erection supervision, commissioning and trial operation of the combustion system.

The new line will be erected at the same location as the other existing lines (1988 and 1994) and is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2012. The customer is the consortium for the entire electro-mechanical part of the new line headed by ATZWANGER S.p.A. Both the old lines will be shut down after commissioning.

The new plant will thermally treat 130,000 tons of residual waste annually and the energy from the waste will be used to produce electricity and heat for district heating. The combustion system will be equipped with a MARTIN reverse-acting grate. The waste throughput and the gross heat release will be up to 21.2 t/h and 58.9 MW respectively.

An infrared camera which produces a two-dimensional image of the temperature distribution on the grate will be installed in the combustion system to optimize the control system.
